We did a 2 month trip of NSW, however, this list would be as applicable for a much shorter trip. We planned to stay mainly in motels and Air BnB places, however, we did include a small amount of camping with our tent.
As for clothes, I usually pack enough for 7 days and then add a couple of items to layer with for colder weather. Everything also mixes and matches, so you have many combinations. We generally do our laundry once a week to stay on top of it. In Australia most things will dry overnight if you hang it out.
We managed to keep everything inside the car, although we did have the backseats down increasing the boot space, so no items were blocking our windows.
Most of our camping and travel gear is light so we can take it when we travel overseas or go hiking. Just one set for all occasions.
We prefer this type of travel, no RV’s, no caravans, no trailers, just our trusted Pajero, a tent and us.

Janny, I would add a good pair of work/gardening type gloves to your list. You never know when you will have to pick something up, move something out of the way, be it prickly, rough or with claws or teeth (if you have to rescue any type of animal).

Mike said I should also mention the good piece of rope that is always in the car boot…
